One Thing Is Needed

It is so easy to get distracted from the things that are important, and sometimes we need a wakeup call. Martha was one such person who was distracted by the cares and duties of this life, that she was missing what was truly important.

“As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who SAT AT THE LORD’S FEET LISTENING TO WHAT HE SAID. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”” Luke 10:38-40 (NIV) -Emphasis Mine

In the King James Version, it says that Martha was “cumbered with much serving.” A closer look at these words, and we will see that there was a problem with Martha that was much deeper than just anxiety about getting dinner on the table. Continue reading →

Suddenly!

ImageWe had a suddenly take place this past Sunday in church. After the life changing Vous Conference 2014 we just went to, where we were set ablaze with fire and passion in our hearts. We had a suddenly take place this past Sunday in church. From the time the worship team did a run thru to praying/worshipping before service, the presence of God was powerful and tangible.

After the message of Fan the Flame, the suddenly happened!Tears were flowing from the pastor on down, and God moved on hearts like I have not seen before. God began to use these young adults as they moved out and began to speak what The Lord put on their heart to encourage everyone, some of them for the first time. Some of the shy ones were now bold and speaking with power and clarity.

I can’t wait to see what is going to happen this Sunday!

Going Deeper – Part 2

ImageIn part 1, I began expounding upon the need for our focus in our walk with God to be on our root system (hidden life). Here is a short except:

“Root is growth beneath the soil. Leaves and fruit are growth above the soil. Root is hidden life; and leaves and fruit are manifest life. The problem with many believers is that while there is much outward life, there is very little secret life.”

This reminds me of a familiar passage from the parable of the sower.

“Some fell on stony ground, where it did not have much earth; and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of earth. But when the sun was up it was scorched, and because it had no root it withered away. ” Mark 4:5, 6 (NKJV)

It is so easy to get caught up in the exuberant atmosphere when an exciting message is being preached. It is easy to be awed by some profound teaching being given. But this is not enough. Results and “growth” will be temporary at best. We must take what we have heard into the secret place, and allow the Holy Spirit to teach us and show us how to apply it to our lives. Going Deeper – Part 1

Our root system (or the lack there of) is of great importance in our growth and maturity in the Lord. Many times, we put our emphasis on bearing fruit, after all, the Lord said that we would be recognized by our fruit. But is this the proper place for our focus? No. The Lord wants our focus to be on being rooted and grounded in Him. The depth of our roots will determine the height of our growth.

If you lack depth, you will never be able to touch the “deep” in others. I can only touch and call forth in you, that which has been touched and called forth in me. The hunger in me can call forth the hunger in you. Kind reproduces kind. We reproduce what we are, not what we would like to be. We reproduce our walk, not our talk. Continue reading →

Girl World vs. God’s World

Last Friday night, we had a ladies night at my house.  We discussed life in Girl World, and the place it has (or not) in God’s World.  It was colorful, honest, and heartwarming as ladies from young teens, a whole bunch of 20somethings, some of us not so 20somethings, shared experiences of their life in Girl World.

Girl World is a place every human being of the female persuasion has dealt with and been effected by. Some are the effecter and some are the ones receiving the effect. The term “Girl World” is a misnomer as it implies a certain age group. However, most women continue the same behavior patterns, into adulthood.  Continue reading →

Do You BELIEVE God? – Part 2

In the wilderness, the Israelites believed the lie that God was powerful enough to bring them out of Egypt, but not faithful enough to bring them into the Promised Land. Unfortunately, often times we do the same thing. We believe what He accomplished for us on the cross. We thank Him for saving us, redeeming us and delivering us. But we have trouble continuing to believe that He will fulfill His promises in our life. If we allow unbelief in the door of our hearts, we believe the same lie as the Israelites. We in essence believe that He was powerful enough to bring us out of darkness, but not faithful enough to bring us into the promise.

Do You BELIEVE God?

Do we understand just how much the Lord longs for HIS PEOPLE to believe Him? Do we comprehend just how important this is to Him? You have to strip away the religious jargon, and get down to brass tacks and ask yourself, “Do You Believe God?”

This is something that is so basic, yet it is so overlooked. It is something that most Christians almost automatically assume they do, and that is to BELIEVE GOD. How many times however, do our words and our actions tell on us that the contrary is true?  Continue reading →
