POTENTIAL Challenge

PotentialChallengeWhat is YOUR Potential – Part 1
What is YOUR Potential – Part 2

Last week I posted Part 1 & 2 of “What is YOUR Potential.” Here is an excerpt:

“Our potential in based on our purpose, and our purpose is connected to our passion. What we are passionate about, is a huge clue to discovering our purpose. Once we get down to the core of who we are, we must DO something about it. Potential stays potential until we begin to put one foot in front of the other towards our purpose.”

You aren’t doing more because no one has challenged you. So that is what we are going to do this week. So here’s the challenge. Here are a series of questions to help you discover your purpose, and examine those things in your thinking and perspective that is limiting you and holding you back from reaching your full potential. I dare you to read it (Part 1 & 2), and go through these questions and see if you don’t discover something about yourself you’ve never seen. So here we go… Continue reading

What Is YOUR Potential? – Part 2

potentialRead Part 1

All of us have been through many different experiences in life, some good some bad. Certain experiences can cause you to draw back from who you really are. If you expressed your truest self and it was met with a negative reaction in some way, it can cause you to withdraw that part of you out of sight from the world. If it happens enough times, or is hurtful enough, it can even get closed off from yourself, locked away somewhere deep on the inside of you. Over time, you can just create many different versions of yourself for the purpose of public consumption.

Most people when they come to Christ have no idea who they are. Living in a fallen world, with all the hurts, disappointments, disillusionment, and losses takes a toll on the once innocent, believing child they were. Most develop coping skills and defense mechanisms that further complicate the expression of who they really are.  Continue reading

What Is YOUR Potential? – Part 1

potentialIn Myles Monroe’s book “Understanding Your Potential”, he makes some striking statements at the beginning of the book. “Buried beneath the soil within the walks of the sacred grounds are dreams that never came to pass, songs that were never sung, books that were never written, paintings that never filled a canvas, ideas that were never shared, visions that never became reality, inventions that were never designed, plans that never went beyond the drawing board of the mind and purposes that were never fulfilled. Our graveyards with potential that remained potential.”

Only a very small percentage of people ever really experience even part of their potential. This is extremely sad. When you consider that God has a plan for each person born, few ever really walk out and fulfill that plan.

We will delve into the following questions:

What is our potential as a human being? What is my potential as a person? What is the potential of the believer? How can I find out what my potential is? How can I tap into this great wealth of potential on the inside of me? Continue reading

Going Deeper – Part 2

ImageIn part 1, I began expounding upon the need for our focus in our walk with God to be on our root system (hidden life). Here is a short except:

“Root is growth beneath the soil. Leaves and fruit are growth above the soil. Root is hidden life; and leaves and fruit are manifest life. The problem with many believers is that while there is much outward life, there is very little secret life.”

This reminds me of a familiar passage from the parable of the sower.

“Some fell on stony ground, where it did not have much earth; and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of earth. But when the sun was up it was scorched, and because it had no root it withered away. ” Mark 4:5, 6 (NKJV)

It is so easy to get caught up in the exuberant atmosphere when an exciting message is being preached. It is easy to be awed by some profound teaching being given. But this is not enough. Results and “growth” will be temporary at best. We must take what we have heard into the secret place, and allow the Holy Spirit to teach us and show us how to apply it to our lives. Going Deeper – Part 1

Image

Our root system (or the lack there of) is of great importance in our growth and maturity in the Lord. Many times, we put our emphasis on bearing fruit, after all, the Lord said that we would be recognized by our fruit. But is this the proper place for our focus? No. The Lord wants our focus to be on being rooted and grounded in Him. The depth of our roots will determine the height of our growth.

If you lack depth, you will never be able to touch the “deep” in others. I can only touch and call forth in you, that which has been touched and called forth in me. The hunger in me can call forth the hunger in you. Kind reproduces kind. We reproduce what we are, not what we would like to be. We reproduce our walk, not our talk. Continue reading
